Y two K Burning

Throughout 1999 there was the fear of the Y2K bug destroying civilization on New Year's Eve. For the big Halloween party at Diane Glass and Michael Milville's house, my friend's Pam, Wayne and McKenzie made several effigies representing the really fearful things. Goblins and vampires weren't scary enough. We made effigies of cell phones, alarm clocks, ignorance and bad traffic. I made the effigy of the Y2K bug shown below.  That was the last one burned, at about 2 in the morning. It was a big, wild party on a big lot in north Sarasota. There were at least a few hundred people there, all wearing costumes. The effigies were all set up in one part of the lawn and burned according to a schedule, every hour. I set them up far from the neighbors who we really scared the previous year with other burning effigies and they called the cops.
