The name "Metaphorical Images" refers to using visual images in ways that imply a poetic or symbolic interpretation. The work in this series typically combines a variety of images in one composition.  The images are integrated in way that is vaguely similar to collage art. This series began in 1982 and continues now. I took a break from it for most of the nineties though I consider the Fixation series a continuing offshoot of it.  The Metaphorical Images works are organized by year and you can see them by clicking on a year below.  There is also a page of randomly selected paintings from those years and you can see them by clicking  RANDOMLY SELECTED PAINTINGS.

1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 2002&2003, 2004

I wrote a Field Guide to this series in 1991. It's an informal explanation of the format and imagery. I had hundreds of these printed for the exhibitions of this work and the viewers seemed very happy with them. The guide answers the most common questions people have about this work and offers some examples of interpretations. It's 12 pages long and you can view it by clicking on the image above and click on each page to see the next page.
